About Blue Moon
Blue Moon Sanctuary is celebrating its 12th year of service to animals in the Lake area. Founded by five women, the organization exists to provide forever homes for approximately 115 special needs animals. Most of the animals are either physically or emotionally challenged due to abuse or neglect by humans. With these ladies in their private homes, the animals live in a warm and nurturing environment with their special needs addressed. No animal in the care of the Blue Moon is caged.
The organization provides spay and neuter assistance, as well as assists with medical bills for people who can't afford emergency care for their pets. Overpopulation is a huge issue at the Lake, and the group is often inundated with calls about animals being dumped. Sometimes, the person finding the animal will be able to keep it, but will need financial assistance for vet visits and spay/neuter. Most of the money raised by Blue Moon goes directly back to the community in the form of public assistance. The organization is a 501(c)3 organization, and virtually all of the money raised goes directly to help the animals at the Lake.
