Looking for a great sub in a unique atmosphere? The Lake's newest sub shop offers football-shaped hoagie rolls baked fresh locally.
At Smashmouth Subs, each sandwich has 6 ounces of meat piled with vegetables and other toppings. Everything is cooked in-house including a number of specialty sauces such as garden cream cheese, jalapeño and other spreads.
The restaurant opened in November 2010. Owner Josh Markovich says they decided on a football theme and selected a menu made up of a variety of choices.
Wanting to be original they came up with combinations and names that would entice fans from all around. Names such as Unnecessary Roughage and Ray Finkle can be found on the menu.
Some of the more popular menu items are the All American, made up of turkey, ham, bacon, roast beef and American cheese. It is topped with lettuce, mayo, tomato, red onions and Smashmouth's own salad oil. Or try the Chiefwich — rubbed and slow roasted pulled pork topped with cheddar cheese, coleslaw, red onion, and pickle. Finished with Kansas City Gates barbecue sauce.
You will also find other types of sandwiches including an all beef frank or oven roasted chicken.
You can still get an old  school sub, made the way you want it.
Besides the food, the atmosphere is unique. Astroturf on the walls, helmets hanging from the ceiling and sport flags contribute to the football theme throughout the restaurant. A flat screen television is always playing a football game.
Markovich says they plan on adding more items to the menu, and offer contests and specials. To-go orders are also available.
