Fresh garden flora, wildflowers, herbs, grains, berries, sticks, and greenery can all be blended into a beautiful bouquet arrangement for any room in the home. Fresh flowers make it very easy to bring the freshness of the outdoors to the indoors of your home. An attractive floral or plant will help characterize your decor.
What bouquet will compliment your setting? Will it be an abundant splash of bright colored posies or a single stemmed blossom?
Guidelines to successful floral arranging:
Keep light colors and buds near the top or outer edge of arrangements.
The darker colors and mid-sized blossoms are best added in the middle of the floral.
The darkest colors and larger blossoms should be at the center, the focal point of the arrangement.
A variety of shapes and sizes will add interest to the bouquet.
The arrangement should be one to two times the width or the height of the container.
Remove leaves that will be under water in the container by running your fingers down the stems.
Cut up branches of cedar to make smaller sprigs to keep the size of your arrangement in scale.
Add cut flower food that is available from your florist.
The container can be anything that holds water, a bucket, a teapot, a vase, a basket, etc.
Secure foam in container. Foam should be about an inch above the container.
Place flowers on the backside of the arrangement to create the finished look.
Leave a little space between blossoms, giving flowers some breathing space.
Flora treatments can be enhanced by positioning them with natural sunlight or lighting to cast shadows.
A floral done in oasis (or green water-holding foam) floral foam should be checked often for water.
To refresh the arrangement spray the arrangement with clear water from time to time.
Placing your floral on a platter when adding water will eliminate spilling water onto the table.
Remember that, occasionally, rules are made to be broken to create the desired atmosphere.
