3 Favorite, Family-Friendly Golf Courses
Paul Leahy picks his favorite Lake-area golf courses for family fun.
Rolling Hills Country Club: Rolling Hills opened in 1955 and is located just off of Highway 5 in Versailles, Missouri. This family-friendly golf club is also open to the public and the club has produced many fine junior golfers including Justin Yoder. Justin was a First Team All American for Central Missouri University and is currently on the NGA Hooters Tour trying his luck at Professional Golf. Rolling Hills offers 18 holes of walker friendly family fun where juniors and parents can walk the facility together. They also have a pool on property and they offer junior and ladies clinics, Wednesday night socials and Holiday tournaments and gatherings for the whole family. The club is a gathering place for many community oriented activities and Steve Nolawski and his staff have made Rolling Hills an instrumental part of family plans. Eldon Golf and Country Club: Eldon is the oldest golf course in the Lake Area, opening in 1934 it has been servicing the Eldon Community for over 75 years. This is another facility that is very important to the social structure of the community and the members that belong to the club. The golf course is designed to be appealing to all skill levels and age. The pool and driving range play integral parts in many of the social events and a life guard is on duty daily throughout the season. Eldon has also developed many fine junior golfers such as Matt Miller, the 2010 Missouri Amateur Championship runner up, and he recently qualified for the 2011 US Amateur. They have a very active men’s and ladies golf association and they have holiday celebrations and tournaments, highlighted by the fireworks display on the 4th of July. Many other social opportunities are offered monthly and like all of the family oriented clubs that I have highlighted kids are welcomed and encouraged. Lake Valley Country Club: The current Lake Valley Country Club opened in 1969 and has been serving the Camdenton Community and its members ever since. Like the other clubs highlighted Lake Valley has a special place in the social structure of the community, the membership and guests alike. The annual 4th of July tournament and family fireworks display is a summer highlight. The golf course was built for walking so juniors and health conscious adults can enjoy a great round of golf on this challenging but entertaining layout. Six par threes, six par fours and six par fives make this Floyd Farley design different from all the others. There golf associations are very active in planning events for men, women, couples and juniors, and the pool, tennis courts and driving range just add to the family friendly atmosphere. Like all the facilities listed these clubs offer activities that appeal to a wide audience and have been instrumental in a family enjoying time and memories together.
